Subject:  Re: Neighbourhood (Pitstone)
We live just along from the shop on Marsworth Road, Pitstone.

At 03:30 this morning our baby was crying, so my wife went to comfort her in her bedroom. Once she put the baby back to sleep (within about a minute or two) my wife came downstairs to get a glass of water. As she got to the bottom of the stairs she saw three young lads at our front room window. One was shining a torch through the glass, looking for a way to open the windows and another two lads were concentrating on the front door lock, trying to open the door. My brave wife then walked up to the window and banged on it three times and told the lads to “CLEAR OFF” (in a harsher manner!). Then they ran and jumped into a Black 5-series BMW with the start plate of ‘KL53’ and sped off in the direction of Ivinghoe.

We reported this to the police, which was a bit of hassle. First we couldn’t find a number; we eventually found it on www.yell.co.uk. We called the Wing station, which was closed, so we then tried Leighton Buzzard, who passed us on to Aylesbury. Full credit to the officers, they were here in no time. They did not take a statement, as the people were disturbed and did not cause any damage.

Isn't it a great shame that even out here in the sticks, we can never be too careful about security? I will certainly be keeping a look out for this vehicle. I feel fairly convinced that this type of criminal must come from the towns to cherry pick our village. How scary must that be to have been to have woken to this situation? Makes you wonder what would have happened had they got in!
I myself had an attempted break-in to my car (seperate post) recently,so thoroughly understand your getting passed about on the phone a bit. I would imagine that the cops in Aylesbury are fairly tied up with that bombing fella.
Perhaps we should have an area of this board where crime can be flagged up for all to see and take note?

FOR EVERYONE : The Police number to call is 08458 505505.

I am thinking about setting up a neighbourhood watch scheme for Marsworth Road. I am going to be sent some information.

As one of the Pitstone Parish Councillors responsible for Police Liaison I receive the Neighbourhood Watch bulletins for Pitstone and Ivinghoe. I've spoken to the Neighbourhood Watch team and they are ok with most of the information being published on the web site. Some information, which may contain specifics that the Police want scheme members to know about but which aren't developed enough for general distribution, will need to be withheld.

Do people think that there's value in publishing information? If so I'll try to find a way of doing it efficiently.

I want to ensure that useful information about crime is widely distributed so people can take note, but I want to make sure that we cover two areas:

1) That posting items on the website isn't seen as a replacement for notifying the Police. It's very important that all incidents are reported.

2) Any information that is published needs to be reliable and must not compromise any possible Police investigation.

For example, if you happened to be parked opposite my house when I noticed someone not connected to you trying to get in round the back I might note your registration number and pass it to the Police. You'd probably get a visit from them for elimination purposes but it would be very low key. However, if I published the registration number on here I suspect you'd be a bit upset. You might even have grounds to sue me for defamation.

Essentially we need to be wary of the line between passing on good information and propogating rumours.

Cheers

Dave

viking,

One point, Daniel Rands is no longer stationed out of Wing so he's probably not the best person for direct reports. The non-emergency number (0845 8 505505) should be the most reliable mechanism.

Hi,
I have just moved to Pitstone a week or so ago, and I would be interested in joining your neighbourhood watch scheme, and will contact the e-mail address you've posted.
Does anyone know what the actual crime statistics are for Pitstone? Or where I can find them on the web?
Thanks

Brian
